Meet Shakira, 5 years old- a gentle little girl who came into our care alongside her two siblings under heartbreaking circumstances.

Earlier in 2025, Shakira, her brother Musa, and baby sister Shamira were brought to Kamuli General Hospital by their mother, Prossy, a young woman living with multiple disabilities, including deafness and mental health challenges. The family had no home and had been residing in and around the hospital—sometimes inside the wards, sometimes outside.

Hospital staff quickly realized the children were in urgent need of protection and contacted the District Probation Officer, who reached out to Good Future and Hope for support. Given their extreme vulnerability, Shakira and her siblings were officially received into our care in April 2024.

When Shakira arrived at our Rescue Center, she was quiet and hesitant, clinging closely to her older brother. It was clear she had gone through a lot in her short life. But over time, with a safe space to play and a loving caregiver to nurture her, she began to open up.

Now four years old, Shakira enjoys coloring, singing softly to herself, and following the older girls around the home. She’s curious and sweet, and she’s learning to trust again. While her mother remains under care, our team is actively supporting efforts to reconnect the children with their extended relatives.

Shakira will soon be enrolled at Good Future and Hope Junior School to begin her early education. As she continues to heal, she is surrounded by love, safety, and the structure every child needs to grow.
